Augmentin – Preparation with antibacterial properties. Used for respiratory and urinary tract, soft tissue and skin infections, and systemic infections.

The composition of all varieties and dosage forms of Augmentin as active ingredients includes the following two components:
– amoxicillin,
– Clavulanic acid.

Amoxicillin and clavulanic acid in different forms contain Augmentin in different dosages and ratios to each other that select the optimal amount of active ingredients for each individual case and each age of the person. Amoxicillin is an antibiotic belonging to the group of penicillins, possessing a wide spectrum of activity and having a detrimental effect on a large number of pathogenic bacteria that cause infectious diseases of various organs and systems. In addition, amoxicillin is well tolerated and rarely has side effects, which makes the use of antibiotics safe, effective and permissible even in pregnant women and young children. However, it has a drawback – amoxicillin formed in many bacteria within a few days of use, stability, as microbes begin to produce special substances – destroy the antibiotic lactamase. This disadvantage limits the use of amoxicillin in the treatment of bacterial infections. However, the downside is that amoxicillin removes clavulanic acid, which is the second component, augmentin.Clavulanic acid is a substance produced by bacteria to inactivate lactamase and therefore amoxicillin also works effectively against bacteria that were previously unresponsive to its effects. That is, it makes amoxicillin clavulanic acid effective against bacteria that have resisted its action, which expands the choice of application of the combined preparation Augmentin. Thus, the association amoxicillin + clavulanic acid makes it more effective antibiotic, broadens its spectrum of action and prevents the development of bacterial resistance.
