Description
Dostinex or Cabergoline (Cabaser) – a drug that inhibits the production of prolactin, increases erection and libido, which lowers blood pressure. In bodybuilding, it is used to reduce and offset the side effects that occur when administering anointed progestin from anointed steroids such as Deca and Trenbolone. In addition, it effectively removes excess fluid from the body, ensuring a qualitative increase in lean muscle mass.
Pharmacological effect
The active substance in Dostinex is cabergoline, a dopaminergic agent, a derivative of ergoline. Has a long and pronounced prolactin-reducing effect. Effects due to blockade of prolactin secretion as a result of direct stimulation in lactotroph cells of pituitary D2-dopamine receptors. When using high doses, there is also a central stimulating dopaminergic effect on D2 receptors. This property of the drug differs from other hypoprolactinic agents.
Just 3 hours after taking Dostinex in the blood, a decrease in prolactin levels is observed, which persists for 7-28 days in healthy individuals and patients with elevated prolactin levels. The effect when used during the postpartum lactation period lasts up to 2-3 weeks. From the digestive tract is absorbed rapidly. The maximum plasma concentration is reached in 0.5-4 hours after internal administration of drug. The half-life was assessed by the rate of elimination of cabergoline in the urine – it was 63-68 hours in healthy individuals, in patients with hyperprolactinemia – 79-115 hours. Due to cabergoline's long half-life, steady-state concentrations of the drug are reached after 28 days. Approximately 41-42% of cabergoline is bound to plasma proteins.
Side effects
Usually the drug is well tolerated. If Dostinex is prescribed to prevent or suppress lactation, dizziness, hypotension, insomnia, headache, nausea and abdominal pain are often observed. These signs are weakly expressed and quickly pass. If the medicine is used to treat hyperprolactinemia, dizziness, headache, nausea, dyspepsia, abdominal pain, gastritis, constipation, general weakness, pain in the mammary glands, depression, flushing heat in the face, hypotension, paresthesia are possible. These signs are weak or moderately expressed and pass quickly. The most common side effects occur within the first 14 days of taking Dostinex.
The side effects of Dostinex are additive, so in the event of the appearance of strong effects, it is recommended to first reduce the dosage, and then try to increase it again if necessary (from 0.25 mg per week for 2 weeks). If the side effects are severe, which requires withdrawal, the symptoms disappear after 1-2 days.
